Dethatching, or Power Raking as it is also known, helps build the lawn your home deserves.
What is Dethatching?
Dethatching is a process that helps get rid of dead grass, leaves, stems, or thatch that build up on your lawn.
Benefits of Dethatching
- Preps your lawn for the spring
- Allows fertilizer to release more effectively on your lawn
Best Time For Dethatching and Power Raking in Minnesota Service: Early Spring
Your lawn starts flexing its growth muscles in the spring. In the twin cities area, this can vary from early march – early April. This is the best time because the grass will be dormant and won’t begin greening up. By investing in dethatching at this time you’ll enable your lawn to thrive throughout the warmer months.
Power Raking vs Aeration
Aeration is a maintenance service for your lawn that should be performed every 1 – 3 years depending on lawn traffic and health. Thatching is recommended when you have overgrown thatch more than ½ an inch or when you see signs of disease. Every lawn does not need dethatching or power raking services and should only be performed if there are signs of disease or has issues growing green in warmer months.
How many applications do I need?
We highly recommend this process once every 2-3 years.
